The Akumaning Brewu Foundation’s mission is to enhance basic elementary school education in the rural villages of Ghana.

Founding Members


Dr Martha Sedegah, Founder and Director

Dr. Martha Sedegah is a Senior Scientist and Director of the Clinical Immunology Research Lab at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Center with over 26 years of research experience.  Dr. Sedegah has made a steady stream of scientific discoveries that is moving the world closer to having a malaria vaccine. In 2000, she founded the Akumaning-Brewu Foundation to improve education in the rural villages of Ghana.


Elliot Sedegah, Co-Founder

Elliot Sedegah is a MBA candidate at the MIT Sloan School of Management with 10 years of experience in technology and management. Elliot is committed to bridging the digital divide through educational support.
