Our current initiative is to complete the construction of the primary school in Assin-Nsuta, Ghana.

Planned Work for 2010

  • Complete Main Building (walkway, stairs, ceiling, doors, windows, paint interior and exterior, furniture)
  • Construct School Library
  • Extend Electricity to Main School building and Library

Progress

Prior to 2001, the children attended school in this wooden hut.

Original School Building

This is the moment when our work began. Below is a picture of the new school in its early stages.

Early Stages of the new school in 2001

Today, the six classrooms harbor over 500 children from Class 1 through 6 (1st thought 6th grade). Several of these children walk to this school from nearby villages to fill the classes. A decent school for these children will give them the opportunity to be not only good Ghanaian citizens, but also good world citizens.

“Every child deserves a book” – Donor

Our view is that every child should have their own textbook as well as access to a library to cultivate a good learning experience. The children of Assin-Nsuta are lacking basic textbooks, novels, picture-books and other educational resources.

Since 2005, the Akumaning-Brewu foundation has collected new and used textbooks, novels, and school supplies to fill this important need. To date, we have donated over 6,000 books! We continue to seek donations of complete volumes of elementary school level textbooks and novels.
